Your responsibilities

We are looking for a professionally and personally convincing personality to support our development department in Lübeck. We can offer you an exciting and independent role in a rapidly growing company. At the Lübeck site, we focus on OCT technology and system integration in our own products and products from other suppliers in the field of ophthalmic surgery.  With your knowledge, you will accompany and guide the project teams from the initial conception, through the definition of the architecture, the construction of prototypes to testing and the handover to production. You will ensure that internal and external requirements for the development of integrated solutions for medical devices are met.  

You will act as the primary liaison between the development teams and senior stakeholders, ensuring that progress, challenges and resource requirements are communicated promptly and effectively:
  • Technical and disciplinary management of an interdisciplinary team in the field of Surgical Imaging  
  • Responsibility for several parallel development projects in collaboration with the Development, Product Management, Regulatory, Operations, QM and Service departments  
  • Ensuring that project targets are met in terms of time, quality and costs  
  • Contributing to strategy and product succession planning  
  • Planning resources and optimising processes in coordination with project management  
  • Supporting the project teams with technical issues  
  • Identifying, reporting and solving technical and organisational problems  
  • Developing and implementing modern and modular product strategies  
  • Analysing patents and initiating invention disclosures  
  • Technology scouting in the field of Surgical Imaging  
  • Coordinating the project with customers, project partners and external suppliers  
  • Supporting the team during audits  
  • Communication with opinion leaders (KOLs)  
  • Facilitate milestone and post-project meetings to capture lessons learnt, drive improvements in processes and tools and further improve future project outcomes

Your qualifications

  • Degree in physics, engineering or comparable 
  • >5 years of experience in medical device development 
  • Management experience desirable 
  • Relevant practical experience with optical coherence tomography (OCT) 
  • Familiarity with digital ophthalmological imaging technologies (e.g. OCT, digital microscopy, laser-based devices)
  • General understanding of safety and regulatory concepts that apply to laser-based diagnostic devices
  • Ability to understand technical details and communicate effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Good market and technical knowledge in the field of Surgical Imaging 
  • Expertise in ophthalmic surgery desirable
